CoVHORT

Pillar 1
Public health responses

Need

While COVID-19 is the most significant global pandemic in over 100 years, it is not likely to be the last. Global change and an increasingly interconnected world increase the likelihood of novel pathogen introduction, making it critical for researchers to use the current pandemic to inform our response and planning in the future.

Proposed Solution

The CoVHORT study is a long-term follow-up study designed to examine the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on the physical, mental, social, and economic well-being of Arizonans. The intent of the CoVHORT study is to recruit 10,000 participants that represent diverse groups.

Statement of Work

The project is survey-based, with respondents asked to provide information every three months for those who have not been infected, and every six weeks for those who have had a diagnosis of COVID-19. Those who become infected with COVID-19 during follow-up adhere to a modified schedule. Following the first year of follow-up, cohort members will be asked to participate in biannual surveys. Periodic collection of biological samples including blood, urine, and hair allow us to possibly measure markers of stress, inflammation, microbiota, and metabolomics.
